Acceptance is not submission;
it is acknowledgement of the facts of a situation.
Then deciding what you’re going to do about it.
~Kathleen Casey Theisen

I love this quote.  This is life coaching’s core, deciding what you are going to DO.  All of life is made up of choices.  Simple choices, ‘Should I wash the car today or tomorrow?’, and more complicated choices, “Does God exist or not?”  But each decision you make will have an impact on how you live.  The way you are living today is a direct result of all the choices you have made up to this point.  You decided whether to get an education in engineering or whether to become a hair dresser.  You decided to sign a lease agreement for your apartment and what location you wanted to live in.  You decided to get married, have children, cook tacos for dinner, read the newspaper and so on.  The good news is, if there are things in you life that you don’t like, you have the power to change them!

One of the most powerful steps you can take today is taking ownership over your life.  This will empower you to see options and opportunities, and allow you to get out from the victim mentality.  Part of taking ownership is eliminating thoughts that say “How could she do that?”, or “Why does this always happen to me?”, or blaming other for holding you back.  Be responsible for all of your drama and find out what your role is in it.  And here is the reward….

You can make a change!  Your life doesn’t depend on anyone else but you.  It is a huge responsibility but also a huge privilege.  Would you believe me if I told you that all you need to do is choose ONE THING to commit to working on and you will see a drastic improvement in all other areas of your life?  It’s true!  Are you in a career you find unfulfilling?  Do you want a change in your body?  Do your friends bring you down?  What about your relationship with God?  Do you have one?  Are you happy with your life?  Your ONE THING is something that you have denied, delayed and procrastinated on, that if you addressed it, it would bring drastic change to the other areas of your life.

A CHALLENGE FOR YOU: FINDING YOUR ONE THING– Consider the areas of health, spirituality, finances, career, relationship with yourself and your relationship with others.  Write those six categories in a column on a piece of paper and then flip it over.  Of those six areas think about which three areas might hold the one thing you want to change.  Flip the paper over and mark an ‘X’ next to those three areas.  Rewrite them to the right of your original column.  Flip the paper over again.  Is one area significantly standing out in your mind?  Maybe ‘career’ keeps jumping out at you?  Or could it be ‘spirituality’?  Flip the paper back and circle the one category that is hiding the ONE THING you could change that, if tackled with persistence, would bring you to the next level in all the other areas as well.  Now next to the circled category write out specifically what came to mind for you.

How do you feel looking at that ONE THING?  Overwhelmed?  Excited?  Intimidated?  Surprised?  Here comes the best part!  You have just given yourself an amazing gift!  Acknowledging the area that you have the power to change, and choosing to change it.  Put some thought into this next step, because here is where the real change will occur.  You have to decide what you are going to DO about it.  Create an action plan for yourself.  To be effective it must take at least 15-20 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week for 90 days.  And the plan should take you out of your comfort zone.  Congratulate yourself!  You are on the path to true life change, for the better!  If you need help with this process or want a coach to hold you accountable to DOING something about your one thing, I would love to work with you!  Click Here for my contact info.
