Today I want to talk about three things you are going to have to give up in business in order to go up in business. Giving up does not mean quitting what is working. Giving up IS QUITTING what is NOT WORKING. This requires some self-reflection, honesty and support from people who see your vision and support YOU.
This is simple to understand and not easy to implement but I promise if you will start to look at these three areas you’ll find some of the weeds that are choking out your success.
Without further ado, here they are.
1) BELIEFS: You’re going to have to give up beliefs that are holding you back from achieving the things you want to do. Think of it this way. There are thinking patterns that are cold, and thinking patterns that are warm, and thinking patterns that are hot. If you find yourself thinking cold thoughts like, “My business isn’t growing,” “It’s hard to sell my products,” “People don’t seem interested in what I’m selling,” then you have to start to warm those thoughts up.
Listen to this video now to help you see how to do this.
Then, once we’ve warmed up our thinking, we turn the heat up and say, “People love buying from me.” “People are attracted to what I have to offer.” “Wherever I go, there’s opportunities that are awaiting me.” This is the kind of thinking you need to start adopting in order to build a successful business. You’re going to have to give up the things that aren’t serving you to go up.
2) RELATIONSHIPS – You’re going to have to give up relationships that aren’t working to support your higher good. Now this requires a step of faith. Oftentimes, in order for new things to come in, we have to give up things that aren’t working for us. Here’s an example. I used to run with a neighbor years ago. She was a great friend. Then she got injured, so she wanted to walk. Instead of saying, “You know, I still really want to run,” I denied my own best interested and agreed to walking. Over time I began resenting the fact I was getting out of bed early just to walk.
The easier thing would have been to say, “You know what? I’m really interested to keep running, so when you get better, I would love to run with you again.” That’s simple. That’s easy. That’s a way to make sure that we stick with our progress while supporting our own highest needs.
Don’t fear that you’ll get rejected or hurt their feelings. That’s their choice. They can choose to be upset or they can choose to accept the situation or be happy for you. Either way, it doesn’t matter. You have to decide what works best for you and then do it.
3) ACTIVITIES (Personal and Business) You have to give up activities that aren’t bringing joy to your life and profits to your business. Every entrepreneur does a lot of things. You’re wearing many hats and you’re trying to figure out, like a person blinded, walking through the dark, what you’re supposed to be doing in order to build a business. Over time, these activities become habitual. We often do them without thinking much about it or analyzing the results we’re getting.
Have you taken a look at your calendar lately? Have you done an audit on your time? Do you think that everything you’re doing now is necessary and could only be done by you?
I encourage you to delegate the things that are no longer bringing you joy. I encourage you to stop doing the things that are not producing revenue anymore. I encourage you to focus on getting more systematic, more strategic, and smarter with your time. When you do these things, you’ll find that simply your business starts growing.
Here’s the final thought. In order to open up space for the universe to bring you more, you have to let go of things first. That’s the way it works: letting go before you can grow. Don’t be afraid. It does require a little bit of a leap of faith in order to do what you need to do to grow your business. Remember, your best thinking has gotten you to where you are now. It’s time to step it up and surround yourself with people who are going to push into higher ways of thinking.
Push yourself to accomplish more and do less, and push yourself to think those warm and hot thoughts continuously throughout the day, catching those cold thoughts, stopping them in their tracks, and shifting them to thoughts that you want to bring into your life.
