Three Life Hacks For Increased Home Business Productivity

Sunday is a great time to reflect on the prior week, and see what you excelled at, and to see what was left undone. Today, I want to take you through a simple exercise that will help you see how you can be more productive this week and offer a few LIFE HACK tech suggestions.

  1. Block off your time.

The first thing you want to do is block off your time. Set chunks of your time into prospecting, team training, appointments, coaching, domestic, child, whatever you have. Try to stick with this schedule.

LIFE HACK: Read Deep Habits- The Importance of Planning Every Minute of Your Workday by Cal Newport for a detailed explanation of how to do this.

Maybe you need to block off one hour every morning for simply outreach. You’re making those prospecting calls. Remember, this is 80% of the work of your business, so don’t plan on one hour of that, and three hours of team training. If you truly want to grow your business, make three hours of prospecting, and one hour of team training.

  2. Set up your office space to be clear and bright.

Some of you may have a dedicated office space, and some may not. For years, I worked off my kitchen table, or a bar stool, or the couch, wherever I could hold my laptop, in the Starbucks or in the van during car pickup line, that was my office. Now I actually have an office, and I do my best to try to keep it clutter free.

There are times when distractions of life will cause piles to surround me. That makes me less productive and drains the energy from the space. Keep it simple, and keep it clean.

LIFE HACK: Use Dropbox or Google Drive for all of your files. When you get a receipt, take a picture of it with your phone, upload it to an expenses file in one of those systems, and throw the receipt away. I do this immediately when I have purchases, so that I keep track. That’s just one simple tip to help you work more productively.

  3. Keep a list of follow-ups with you at all times.

Don’t let people slip through the cracks, and make sure that you have a routine system of keeping people potential and past clients engaged. Remember 80% of sales happen after the 5th follow-up call.  This is a relationship business, and people want to hear from you, especially when you’re not selling.

LIFE HACK: Use Google Tasks extension for Chrome to create targeted lists.  You can create a list for follow-ups.  I also have lists for Books to Read, Grocery List, Ideas, Someday Maybe and so on.

Make your life more transparent, where people feel connected to you, not just because they bought something from you, but because you truly care. Think about how you can reach out to someone this week, and tell them, “I appreciate you,” with no strings attached.

If you do these three things, you will find that your business runs much more smoothly, and you might have a little more free time to take a bike ride or sit on your back patio.

Enjoy your day!
