So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:11

I have a folder in my email called “Encouragement” and whenever I receive a nice response back from one of my daily emails, I always reply and thank the sender and then I file it to re-read at a later date.

Well, I am my own worst critic. I don’t need you to tell me I’m not enough. I think that of myself already.

I routinely think of all the things I have yet to do or what I could have done better on things that I have completed. I browse Facebook and it seems others are more successful and sure of what they are doing. But me? I’m just faking it. Right? And that is insanity.

So I need you and I appreciate every single email I get.

On days when I am not feeling so hot, I open my encouragement folder and read letters from you. And sometimes just knowing I have it makes me feel better.

Here’s the thing. Encouragement costs nothing and yet it means everything. Paul knew it when he wrote this verse reminding them to encourage each other and build each other up.

Encouragement takes so little time. And it’s so easy to do. I make a habit of it also. I compliment the girl as I go through the Starbucks drive-thru. I always use the name of the person who checks out my groceries (much to my kids’ embarrassment). I talk to the bagger who walks my cart out to the van and usually by the time we’ve unload I know quite a bit about them.

I know this is a simple reminder. As was Paul’s. He wasn’t saying, “Stop being rude.” He said, “Keep encouraging…like you’re already doing.” Keep up the good work!

And that is my charge to you today. Keep up the good work. Smile and look someone in the eye. Offer a word of encouragement by phone, by text, by email. Maybe they too have an encouragement folder and they’ll save your message for a second read on a down day.

I know I will.

I appreciate you. Thank you for your time to read today and please pass this along with a note of encouragement to someone today.

The Courage to Be Yourself 6-Week Course starts Thursday. Don’t forget to grab your seat!
