Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Last night Jim and I went to the comedy club and saw a comedian we’ve followed for years, Carlos Mencia. If you can tolerate (and appreciate) some really rude and offensive humor he is your guy. And one thing I loved is that he kept saying, “Don’t get offended. These are just jokes. The world will still be the same when you leave here. It’s okay to laugh.”
But the one part that really bothered me was talking about how there should have already been a woman president and the reason why there hasn’t been is that women are too bitchy and won’t sacrifice for each other. If we would just unite and all vote for the woman she’d be in.
Now this post isn’t about politics or policies. This post is about how long he went on to describe all the ways in which women don’t support each other and all the ways guys do. He even talked about guys playing ‘the wingman’ and ‘taking one for the team’.
But women. No. They would never do that.
So I was listening. Was it true what he was saying? That women are backstabbers, unsupportive and critical of one another? That we are not willing to sacrifice and lift each other up?
Maybe for some women. But in my world…I don’t see that at all.
As I look at the comments from this post I shared yesterday all I see is support and love and suggestions to be better. I see genuine happiness and excitement. I see fun banter back and forth between people who have differing opinions and I see so many faces of people who are willing to take their time to add some positivity into my world.
So how is it that some women have the experience of critical friends and others have supportive friends? We all know the answer. You attract what you are. If you are critical you’ll attract critical friends. If you are kind you’ll be surrounded with kindness.
Today I just wanted to write to say THANK YOU. Thank you for being in my life. Thank you for being supportive and kind and loving. Especially at a time when I am putting more of myself out there than ever before. It is scary and has requires a lot of faith. Your words have confirmed to me that I am heading in the right direction.
If we’re not friends on Facebook, feel free to click my name and request me. I would love to connect over there as well. Have a beautiful weekend and remember to be kind. Speak a good word. Let your conversation leave someone better off than before they spoke with you.
My goal- Always leave someone with a smile.
Love you! April
